The challenge
A single-source connector failure had idled Solvia's largest line for ninety-six hours in one quarter. The exposure map nobody maintained suggested the problem was not one part, but two hundred.
What we did
Marijke Roos's team mapped every critical part to its sources, lead times, and the financial health of the supplier behind it — 214 single-source parts, ranked by restart time rather than spend.
Dual-source qualification started with the top sixty parts by restart risk. Volume splits were written to keep both suppliers producing, and quality agreements gained exit clauses the legal team had not thought to ask for.
The outcome
Single-source exposure fell from 214 critical parts to 31 within nine months. Line-down hours from supply failures fell from 96 to 9 per quarter, and the client team now re-runs the risk map every quarter without help.
Single-source critical parts −183 parts
Line-down hours from supply −87 h/quarter
Alternate sources qualified +183 parts covered
Bars are scaled per metric against its own maximum. Direction of improvement: Single-source critical parts, Line-down hours from supply, Alternate sources qualified — see each metric.
| Metric | Before | After | Change | Improvement |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Single-source critical parts | 214 parts | 31 parts | −183 parts | Lower is better |
| Line-down hours from supply | 96 h/quarter | 9 h/quarter | −87 h/quarter | Lower is better |
| Alternate sources qualified | 0 parts covered | 183 parts covered | +183 parts covered | Higher is better |
